What the USA map shows

The USA Cannabis Laws Map is an interactive, colour-coded map of marijuana's legal status in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. Tap or search any state to see whether adult-use and/or medical cannabis is legal, the general possession and home-grow posture, and how state law sits against federal law — with links to official sources. It is reviewed and updated every month as programs launch and laws change.

How the data is sourced & verified

Every state entry cites authoritative references: the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) state medical-cannabis and overview tables, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on federal scheduling, and the CDC. Descriptions also reflect the current federal position — as of 2026, state-licensed medical cannabis and FDA-approved cannabis drugs sit at Schedule III while other cannabis remains Schedule I.
